En Rodez la carta adquiere el valor de su única expresión literaria. En el tomo anterior Cartas desde Rodez I (1943-1944), Antonin Artaud utiliza esta expresión literaria para dirigirsse a sus familiares, amigos y médicos. Pero en este tomo Artaud se libera de la influencia psiquiátrica y familiar, y las cartas que dirige a un destinatario particular, están destinadas a ser leídas por todos. Un tercer tomo completa esta serie, recogiendo su correspondencia con el médico-jefe del manicomio.
