Des de la revista "Renaixença", Lluís Domènech i Montaner (1850-1923) va conjugar el principi de la modernitat arquitectònica amb el Modernisme i va formular la recerca d'una arquitectura nacional "del Pirineu a la ciutat de València i de ponent a la ciutat de mallorca", a la qual van incorporar-se Antoni Gaudí i Puig i Cadafalch. Josep Aragay (1889-1973) va publicar el 1920 l'opuscle que dóna nom a aquest llibre en què va posar les bases del Noucentisme al nostre país en les arts plàstiques.
