En este álbum no hay viajes ni grandes aventuras, y ahí está la gracia de Hergé para conseguir mantener la intriga. Toda la acción sucede en Moulinsart, dentro y en los jardines y alrededores del castillo. Según nos cuenta el mismo Hergé: 0201C;Al empezar este álbum, mi intención era también la de simplificar, la de entrenarme a narrar, esta vez, una historia en la que no pasase nada, sin recurrir al exotismo.
