De su ingente obra histórica en 142 libri, que abarcan desde la llegada de Eneas al Lacio hasta la muerte de Druso en el año 9 a.C., sólo se conserva la cuarta parte: los libri I-X y XXI-XLV. La presente traducción, deliberadamente titulada Los origenes de Roma, se centra en los cinco primeros libri, péntada con entidad propia en la que Tito Livio narra la historia de Roma hasta su toma por los galos y posterior liberación. Comprende también una introducción, notas y varios apéndices.
