Los medievales cercos de las fortalezas mediterráneas, el sitio de una ciudad simbólica, reviven hoy con modernas tácticas de destrucción y vilipendio. Mahmud Darwix ha sido testigo de modernos asedios como el de Beirut en 1982 y el actual de Ramala. «Estado de sitio» es un poema extenso, fechado en enero de 2002, que explora en tono metafísico y con un potente sesgo dialógico, la vivencia del sitio de la ciudad cisjordana durante el invierno 2001-2002. Sorprende en este poema la capacidad de Darwix para escribir excelente poesía, a partir de un hecho prosaico, terrible y aparentemente apoético. Un libro raramente esperanzado.
