Proyectado bajo la chispeante mirada de Proteo -Tito- Liviano, típico ejemplar de criatura galdosiana, el presente episodio da cuenta de los primeros meses de vida de LA PRIMERA REPÚBLICA -efímera experiencia que, tras la abdicación de Amadeo I, vino a continuar una larga inestabilidad política-, marcados por los continuos cambios de gobierno, las luchas entre facciones políticas y el fenómeno del cantonalismo.
