L?obra és una font única per mostrar-nos la societat vigatana a l?inici de la llarga Guerra dels Segadors, ja que abasta des del 30 de desembre de 1640 al 24 de desembre de l?any següent, i hi trobem un bon nombre de referències a la situació de la ciutat durant els agitats mesos inicials de la contesa.
