La masculinitat patriarcal té efectes nefastos per a la societat i per als mateixos homes que la viuen. Així i tot, l'anàlisi de la masculinitat com a construcció, com a gènere, se'ns ha fet invisible. Sovint s'ha caigut en una mena d'essencialisme a l'hora d'explicar per què i com els homes fan el que fan. 'Disputar la masculinitat' vol oferir perspectives des de diversos àmbits, sobre com es construeix la masculinitat, per què és tan difícil desfer-se'n, què ha funcionat i què no en abordar-la i, sobretot, obrir noves vies des d'on pensar que transformar-la no és només possible, sinó indispensable.
El recull compta amb estils molts diversos per acostar-nos a una idea també diversa: la masculinitat. Un producte col·lectiu que vertebra bona part de les relacions humanes i, que per tant, construïm col·lectivament. I en la mesura que és col·lectiva, tenim la possibilitat de disputar-ne els significats per transformar-ne les conseqüències.
