A inicis del segle XX, Terra baixa d’Àngel Guimerà inicia un sorprenent viatge pels escenaris d’Amèrica del Nord. El que comença amb una agressió a l’actriu Corona Riccardo a Broadway el 1903 és el punt de partida d’una gran aventura teatral i cinematogràfica. Entre 1903 i 1914, Terra baixa i Maria Rosa recorren més de vuitanta teatres dels EUA i el Canadà. Actrius com Riccardo, Mrs. Fiske o Bertha Kalich impulsen l’èxit del dramaturg, atretes per uns personatges femenins que es resistien a ser dominats. Un fenomen que va culminar el 1915 a Hollywood, quan Cecil B. DeMille va adaptar Maria Rosa al cinema mut. Aquest llibre reconstrueix el periple nord-americà d’un dels grans mites del nostre teatre i mostra com la força de Guimerà va esdevenir un inesperat pont cultural. Amb pròleg d’Enric Gallén.
