Aquesta recerca inèdita permet conèixer de primera mà el transcendental paper del mestre en el si de la Spanish Refugee Aid, l'organització humanitària nord-americana, un rol que va superar amb escreix el paper simbòlic de president honorífic que tradicionalment se li ha atribuït i que evidencia un compromís absolut amb la sort dels refugiats de la Guerra Civil.
