Els primers dies de novembre de 1926 més d’un centenar de catalans foren detinguts per la gendarmeria francesa acusats de preparar un complot per provocar un aixecament popular a Catalunya i proclamarne la independència. Aquesta temptativa, coneguda com “els fets de Prats de Molló”, i el consegüent procés que es féu a París tingué un gran ressò internacional i contribuí, de forma decisiva, a la internacionalització del cas de Catalunya i que la figura de Francesc Macià adquirís la dimensió èpica que encara avui l’acompanya.
