La pressió social contra la supèrbia és una manera de destruir els millors àngels de la nostra naturalesa i les poques pensades originals que anem tenint durant la vida. L’antídot de la supèrbia no és tan sols la humilitat; és també un espai social on l’interès genuí per coses diferents i elevades és vist com un guany per a tothom. Fa la vida més rica i oberta.
Com més fràgil és una comunitat, més necessitat té de censurar els caràcters forts. Hem cultivat durant segles la idea que, de tots els defectes dels caràcters forts, el més perillós és la supèrbia.
