Trabajó desde Turquía, Francia, Reino Unido, Alemania, Estados Unidos, Italia y Portugal, y desde 1949 se instaló en el Hotel Palace de Madrid, donde vivió hasta su muerte. En "Mis páginas mejores" reunió una deliciosa colección de textos que recorren un mundo del que fue testigo y que desapareció en gran parte tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Un ramillete de retratos nacionales y paisajes de la civilización, lleno de reflexiones lúcidas que, curiosamente, también conforman un autorretrato.
