El coneixement històric s'ha anat substituint pel recurs a la memòria i a uns productes culturals fraccionats i estereotipats. Aquest resum, doncs, pretén exposar de forma ordenada i entenedora la història contemporània del nostre país, aquella que de forma més directa ha constituït la complexa Catalunya actual. A més, aquest coneixement ens forneix d'una eina imprescindible per poder entendre aquesta realitat d'ara d'una manera més fonamentada i crítica.
