L'únic món que coneixen és l'escola i els seus voltants. L'únic contacte possible amb l'exterior és el telèfon. Tot està programat: les classes, els àpats, les dutxes, els jocs, la lectura. Els professors són holografies. Però uns fets casuals porten uns quants nois a descobrir i entendre per quins mecanismes funciona l'escola i, alhora, a entrar en contacte amb un grup de noies d'una escola no gaire distant. Aleshores la rutina es trenca i tot es complica. A poc a poc, aquests nois i noies -tots ells adolescents- viuen el naixement de l'amistat i, a mesura que se senten créixer, el de l'amor. Més tard descobreixen un món hostil i brutal, el de la gent gran.¿Per què han estat reclosos en escoles aïllades? ¿Per què els seus pares ho van acceptar? ¿De quin perill volien salvar-los?
