Aquesta obra és un estudi sobre la vida del col·leccionista Pablo Bosch i Barrau (1841-1915). Vocal del Reial Patronat del Museu del Prado, nomenat el 1912, i membre del Patronat des de la seva creació, va fer al Museu del Prado la donació d’obres d’art més important fins aquell moment (Goya, Murillo, El Greco...). El propòsit d’aquesta obra no se centra en el coneixement (estil, iconografia, atribucions….) de les peces que formaven part de la seva col·lecció, sinó principalment en les vicissituds i circumstàncies biogràfiques de Pablo Bosch, en la seva metodologia com a col·leccionista, les prioritats electives i el comerç de l’art.
