Quan Gerard Vergés (1931-2014) va guanyar el premi Josep Pla l’any 1985 amb 'Tretze biografies imperfectes', va confessar que se sentiria molt feliç si el llibre aconseguia salvar algú del tedi o de la soledat. Quines vides poden fer-ho, això? I, sobretot, com cal contar-les? Aquí llegim tretze biografies radicalment originals, on les especulacions sobre els orígens de Shakespeare es mesclen amb les desventures viscudes per la Circe homèrica o amb l’oblit a què estan condemnats bandolers i músics que van flirtejar amb la posteritat. Entremig, autobiografia, història del país, crítica literària, i un estil únic en la nostra literatura, alhora irònic, poètic i erudit. Feia anys que calia reeditar aquesta obra, i ara ho fem amb una catorzena biografia, a mans de Joan Todó, tan imperfecta com les que va signar el mateix Vergés.
