Vergara fue la villa guipuzcoana que vio unido para siempre su nombre al convenio entre los generales Espartero y Maroto que puso fin en 1839 a los seis sangrientos años largos durante los que transcurrió la Primera Guerra Carlista. Las pintorescas intrigas históricas que precedieron a este acontecimiento se entreveran con las novelescas que siguen protagonizando Fernando Calpena, Beltrán de Urdaneta, Aura, Zoilo y demás personajes de esta Tercera serie.
