Que ningú em confonga amb un "crític literari", només sóc un escriptor que escriu dels llibres que ha llegit... sóc un escriptor que preferiria ser només un lector». Per això ell fa molts anys que té un bloc anomenat 'Ofici de lector', on penja els comentaris sobre novetats de literatura catalana o o -més sovint- internacional que publica habitualment al setmanari 'El Temps' o al diari 'Ara'. Garí ofereix en aquest volum una selecció d'indagacions llibresques aparegudes en els últims deu anys -pulcrament editades per la professora Anna Esteve. Es tracta de petites càpsules de literatura universal, excursions amb un estil meticulosament treballat, que busquen prolongar el plaer d'haver llegit amb un segon delit: el d'haver escrit.
