El seu pare li eixugava les llàgrimes amb tendresa, per consolar-lo. Aquesta és una proposta literària i artística, que a primer cop d'ull podria semblar massa trista i pessimista per als lectors infantils; però de la mateixa manera que li succeeix a l'esquirol, els nens perceben amb naturalitat l'experiència de la mort. I busquen respostes. La distància que els hi aporta la fantasia és bàsica per ajudar-los a entendre la pèrdua d'un ésser estimat.
