Con una amiga musicóloga buscarán el origen del enigmático instrumento hasta la exótica isla de Sumatra de principios del siglo xx, donde Rose Gallway, una joven violinista de gran talento, vivió una desdichada historia de amor relacionada con el misterioso violín y también con la historia de Lilly.
