Georg von Schnitzler va idear i va pagar el pavelló alemany de l'Exposició Universal de Barcelona de 1929, conegut com a pavelló Mies van der Rohe. Von Schnitzler era el màxim dirigent del conglomerat químic IG Farben (Bayer, Basf, Agfa en formaven part). La seva empresa produí el gas Zyklon B, el gas d'Auswitzch, el seu camp, on hi assassinaren més d'un milió de persones. A més de gasejar persones, Schnitzler comprava jueus i altres presoners a preu de saldo a les SS i els feia treballar fins a la mort en règim d'esclavatge.
