Otoño de 1937. La revista británica Left Review, por medio de la editora y activista Nancy Cunard, lanza dos preguntas: 1. «¿Estás a favor o en contra del Gobierno legal y del pueblo de la España republicana?». 2. «¿Estás a favor o en contra de Franco y del fascismo?».
Resultado: 148 escritores y escritoras de Reino Unido se pronuncian y toman partido sobre la guerra civil española.
Se incluye, además, una selección de las respuestas al cuestionario llevado a cabo en Estados Unidos.
Dividido en tres secciones, «A favor del Gobierno», «Neutral» y «En contra del Gobierno», se trata de uno de los documentos más citados sobre el posicionamiento político de intelectuales.
