Hipòlit, el primer dels dos títols que ara presentem, forma part d’un grup de tragèdies centrades principalment en la descripció de la passió amorosa; en aquest cas assistim a les conseqüències de l’amor funest de Fedra pel seu fillastre. En l’Andròmaca, en canvi, les passions humanes es dibuixen sobre un rerefons més de caràcter polític: després de la caiguda de Troia, Andròmaca ha esdevingut esclava de Neoptòlem i viu sota l’amenaça constant d’Hermíone, l’esposa legítima del seu amo.
