Tot i que el mussol Elvis reconeix que els seus veïns els ratolins són ben capaços d’alegrar-li el dia, també necessita temps per a ell, per llegir el diari, omplir l’herbari o dormir la migdiada. I és impossible, perquè aquests petitons no podrien ser més escandalosos. La solució, després de pensar-hi molt, la troba a les colònies humanes: allà els nens van a un lloc anomenat escola. Tot el matí! I qui millor que ell per fundar una nova escola per a aquests ratolins tan inquiets? És un pla idíl·lic, però els petits ratolins, a més d’escandalosos, són molt trapelles.
