Berlín, abril de 1945. Ingrid es una civil alemana que justo sale de varios años de infierno bajo el régimen nazi. Evgeniya es una soldado rusa que acaba de llegar a Berlín con el ejército soviético para autentificar los restos de Hitler. Ambas llevan un diario íntimo, que permite al lector seguir el nacimiento gradual de una amistad aparentemente imposible.
