En morir el dictador, l'any 1975, molts catalans cregueren que Catalunya tornaria a recuperar les seves velles institucions i que amb un petit interval monàrquic, l'estat espanyol podria tornar a ser una república democràtica en la qual poder confiar. Alguns, de Catalunya estant, encara creuen que una República espanyola significaria un canvi substancial en la relació entre Espanya i Catalunya. Malauradament, molts desconeixen què significà la Segona República per als catalans. Aquest petit estudi pretén donar a conèixer uns fets que ens il·lustren sobre els vuit anys (1931 a 1939) en què la realitat històrica ens permet afirmar que sigui sota una monarquia, sota una dictadura o sota una democràcia, Catalunya no va veure reconegut el seu dret a ser un poble lliure entre els pobles lliures de la terra.
