Aristócrata, gourmet, peregrino en Hollywood, director de cine, novelista, autor teatral, articulista y crítico cinematográfico, Edgar Neville (1899-1967) es uno de los más brillantes (y de los aún no plenamente reconocidos, pese al interés despertado por su obra y su figura en el último cuarto de siglo) creadores de la llamada Edad de Plata. Edgar Neville fue también siempre, con enorme fidelidad, un enamorado y un amante de su ciudad natal. A Madrid dedicó Neville multitud de páginas literarias y un puñado de películas memorables. También esta encantadora y un tanto nostálgica Historia madrileña del medio siglo, aparecida en el extraordinario de 1951 de la revista Arte y Hogar y ahora por vez primera publicada en libro, con un estimulante y muy noticioso prólogo de Fernando Castillo.
