Des de la seva creació la Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer ha comptat amb un dipòsit important de quadres procedents del Museu del Prado. Inaugurada el 1884 a Vilanova i la Geltrú, en pocs anys comptava ja amb una cinquantena d'obres que complementaven les col·leccions pròpies. Al llarg d'aquests 136 anys la presència de peces del Prado ha estat constant i amb obres realment destacades, com L'Anunciació d'El Greco o el Dos de maig de Sorolla, al costat de pintures de Murillo, Ribera, Juan Bautista Maíno o Goya. El llibre mostra les peces que actualment estan en dipòsit a la Biblioteca Museu, producte d'aquesta llarga i fecunda col·laboració amb el Museu del Prado, i que el 2019 van formar part d'una exposició amb gran èxit de públic. També hi ha una edició en castellà a Lectio Ediciones.
