Sucumbiendo al extraño influjo de un sombrero encontrado en una catedral, el protagonista intenta abrirse paso entre sórdidos crímenes y arcanas apariciones, al tiempo que comienza a entrever el carácter místico de la realidad y de su propio destino. Gustav Meyrink llevó hasta sus más altas posibilidades narrativas el mito hebreo del coloso de barro que solo pueden animar aquellos que han descifrado el nombre secreto de la divinidad. Personajes memorables, escenarios misteriosos y antiguas leyendas medievales se entretejen en un trasfondo onírico, de luces y sombras, recreado magistralmente por los collages de la artista chilena Alejandra Acosta.
