A través del seu diari i de les cartes que envia, comprovarem que la seva no és una aventura en el sentit tradicional del terme. No hi apareixen dracs, ni gnoms, ni extraterrestres, ni monstres marins ni belles fades. L'aventura d'en Pau és la d'una vida real però no típica. L'excepcionalitat rau en la naturalesa dels «dracs» que ha de combatre i en el carácter encuriosit i imaginatiu d'un noi que no busca l'aventura.
