Un falso peregrino a Compostela les cuenta su odisea a dos compinches: cautivo en Ponza, falso médico en el palacio del Gran Turco, fugitivo en hábito de monje griego por el Mar Egeo, curioso y dicaz transeúnte en Italia, se encuentra ahora haciendo el Camino de Santiago. Con un lenguaje insuflado de refranes y proverbios, Pedro de Urdemalas cuenta las muchas vidas que ha vivido en sus distintos avatares en sus casi cuatro años de cautiverio, suplantaciones, fugas y peregrinajes. Es al mismo tiempo irreverente diálogo lucianesco, crónica de un viaje anunciado y ya cumplido y novela verosímil en donde el narrador no deja títere con cabeza. Esta edición especula y propone un nombre para el enigmático autor: Francisco López de Gómara.
