Creonte, rey de Tebas, dictamina que Polinices no sea enterrado dignamente, por haber traicionado a su patria, por lo que su cuerpo queda al arbitrio de los cuervos y los perros. Antígona decide desobedecer el mandato de Creonte por considerar que bajo ningún concepto se puede traicionar el orden de lo sagrado. Su decisión da lugar a acontecimientos trágicos que todavía nos siguen impresionando.
