Al mateix temps, l’arribada a un petit poble de la Vall Fosca d’una descendent de la Vella Rugalla, una bruixa condemnada cinc vegades a la forca durant el segle xvi, coincideix amb l’aparició d’animals morts, nens que emmalalteixen misteriosament i altres fenòmens estranys. El sergent Salvador Rull, l’agent Núria Riu i el caporal Coscubiela hauran de fer front a dos casos que posaran a prova les seves conviccions mentre es qüestionen també les seves vides.
