El llibre recull tota la documentació confidencial que la policia tenia des del 1915 fins al 1943, quan va ser jutjat pel règim franquista tot i que ja feia anys que havia estat assassinat pels serveis secrets soviètics. El lector també hi trobarà correspondència inèdita, especialment amb Trotski, cartes familiars i articles que van ser requisats a Nin.
