La Clara és mestra d’educació especial i se sent realitzada ajudant els nens amb dificultats, però té problemes en les distàncies curtes: els amors no li duren i amb la família sovint hi ha mala maror. Quan el company amb qui conviu des de fa un any la deixa, se li obre un esvoranc angoixós i es pregunta el perquè dels seus fracassos. La trama es desenvolupa entre Barcelona i Llançà, el poble mariner on viu la seva amiga Olga, amb la filla Tanit, d’onze anys, i el Paul, el seu company. La Clara anirà trobant respostes a partir de diferents situacions i encontres que acabaran sacsejant els racons més ignots de la seva consciència. El mutisme de la nena i les evocacions davant del mar esdevindran el nou brogit de la seva vida, una nova alarma.
