Luciano Berio (Oneglia, 1925 – Roma, 2003) fue uno de los mayores compositores italianos del siglo xx. Criado en el seno de una familia de músicos, estudió composición y dirección musical en el conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi de Milán. Desde la década de 1950 destacó como uno de los principales representantes de la vanguardia musical europea y pionero de la música electrónica. A lo largo de su carrera recibió múltiples permios y distinciones, entre ellos el León de Oro de la Bienal de Venecia de 1995 por el conjunto de su trayectoria, así como el prestigioso Premio Imperial de Japón.
