Essad Bey, nacido Lev Nussimbaum (Kiev, 1904-Positano, 1942), el extraordinario narrador de Petróleo y sangre en oriente y Alí y Nino, publicó también cinco interesantes y poco convencionales biografías (Stalin, Nicolás II, Rezah Sha, Mahoma y Lenin) y varios ensayos sobre el mundo islámico, la Rusia bolchevique y el Cáucaso, además de este volumen, La Rusia blanca (1932), que ahora presentamos y que fue, muy tempranamente, en 1933, traducido y publicado en España por la editorial madrileña Dédalo. Al igual que en el conocido libro de Manuel Chaves Nogales, Lo que ha quedado del imperio de los zares (1931), publicado por esta misma editorial, acomete Essad Bey en estas páginas, con brillantez y conocimiento, la historia de los tres millones rusos, los llamados rusos blancos, que huyeron de Rusia tras la Revolución para esparcirse por toda Europa, a menudo en las más dramáticas condiciones.
