Joaquim Franch va impulsar el 1983 un camp de natura amb l'objectiu de contribuir a la preservació dels aiguamolls de l'Empordà. Durant quinze dies, la convivència i el treball conjunt van modificar les actituds i les idees dels participants, joves i adults, en tres sentits: el de relació, el d'acció i el de reflexió. Dos anys després, Franch va recollir l'experiència ?de valor educatiu i ecològic? i la teoria que la sustenta en aquesta obra, que va merèixer el Premi Artur Martorell de la Generalitat de Catalunya. L'actual edició es completa amb el text inèdit Ecos més llunyans.
