Este libro presenta una breve historia de la fotografía y destaca los géneros y los estilos más significativos en el desarrollo del medio. También recorre los avances tecnológicos mediante los cuales la primitiva cámara oscura acabó por transformarse en la moderna réflex digital. Y destaca cincuenta obras clave, que abarcan desde el pictorialismo y el fotoperiodismo hasta la abstracción y la fotografía directa, que han dejado una huella indeleble en la trayectoria del medio. No se trata de una historia exhaustiva, pero pone de relieve la importancia de la fotografía para entender el mundo que nos rodea.
