La obra está inspirada en un accidente real acontecido durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial en Ibiza. El día 10 de Enero de 1944, un Junkers Ju 88 alemán es tiroteado por un Bristol Beaufighter británico durante su azaroso combate sobre el cielo azul de Dalt Vila. Como resultado del enfrentamiento, el avión alemán es abatido y cae al mar, a pocas millas del extremo norte de la isla. El posterior rescate de la tripulación y el destino final de sus protagonistas dan cuerpo a un relato de ficción que se nutre de los personajes reales involucrados en la historia.
