En un mundo aniquilado donde la violencia es la forma de vida, los jóvenes son protegidos en refugios alejados del mundo exterior. Sin embargo, Daia, que desde pequeña ha recibido una excelente educación intelectual, está convencida de que un mundo mejor está a la vuelta de la esquina. Después de quince años en una escuela automatizada con hologramas como profesores y sin contacto con ningún adulto, un terrible suceso empuja a Daia y su hermana gemela a enfrentarse a un entorno hostil donde nada es lo que parece.
