A Montserrat. Llegendari, cançons, odes, integrat per quaranta-sis poesies curtes, Verdaguer hi va compilar en les edicions de 1899 i 1902 pràcticament tota la seva producció de tema montserratí, tant la publicada abans sota el títol de Cançons de Montserrat (1880 i 1885), com la dispersa en altres llibres o edicions soltes i fins algunes peces inèdites. Aquest poemari, que compta amb moltíssimes musicacions, conté els poemes amb què Verdaguer va contribuir a la mitificació moderna de Montserrat i s'hi troben alguns dels seus textos populars, com ara "La mort de l'escolà" o el "Virolai". En el volum, el poeta hi va recollir també el poema èpic "Llegenda de Montserrat", que en la present col·lecció, s'ha editat com a segon tom del llibre que porta el títol general de "Montserrat".
