Cervantes inicia su andadura poética en 1569, con sólo 23 años. Como en todo principiante , sus poemas iniciales muestran huellas del magisterio de los mayores. Son poemas a la manera de los que escrbían los escolares de su tiempo, aunque ya en ellos, sobre todo leídos desde la perspectiva de su trabajo posterior, se advierten lo que luego será su tendencia fundamental: la adopción de la lírica cancioneril y del modelo italianizante como forma de renovar, enraizándose en ella, la doble tradición en que se inserta.
