Fruit de la revitalització del pelegrinatge a Compostel?la, un gran nombre de congressos i simposis han tingut lloc al voltant de la temàtica jacobea i de la complexa realitat que envolta el Camí de Santiago i que han servit per recuperar la memòria dels diversos itineraris, pels quals transitaven els pelegrins que recorrien Europa durant l?Edat Mitjana. Dins d?aquests itineraris, però, a penes s?ha donat importància al tram del camí que passava per Catalunya. La publicació de la present obra ens obliga a replantejar-nos aquesta visió i a preguntar-nos si la imatge que tradicionalment hi ha hagut de Catalunya i el Camí de Sant Jaume és del tot exacta o, més aviat, el fruit de la manca d?estudis i del desconeixement.
