Aquest és el darrer tom de les memòries de Conrad Roure. El subtítol del tom respon al fet que la major part dels articles descriuen l'Exposició Universal de Barcelona de 1888. Amb tot, els Recuerdos comencen amb la mort del general Serrano, el 26 de novembre de 1885, l'endemà de la mort d'Alfons XII. Roure, en el capítol primer, es mostrava molt crític amb la trajectòria política del duc de la Torre, el darrer president de la primera República espanyola. Serrano no s'havia oposat al pronunciament de Martínez Campos a Sagunt, que comportà la restauració de la monarquia i de la dinastia borbònica a l'estat espanyol.
