Estanislau Ruiz Ponsetí (Maó, 1889 - Mèxic DF, 1967) és una d'aquelles figures històriques que necessitaven ser rescatades de l'oblit. Gràcies al treball d'investigació de l'historiador menorquí Josep Portella, coneixem com aquest fill d'una família acomodada de Maó, enginyer de professió, decideix defensar els drets dels obrers i abraçar el socialisme. Elegit diputat al Parlament de Catalunya el 1932 per la Unió Socialista de Catalunya, va ser amb Manuel Serra i Moret i Joan Comorera una figura clau del socialisme català durant la República. Finalitzada la Guerra Civil es va exiliar a Mèxic, des d'on continuaria fent resistència contra la dictadura. Mai no va renunciar als seus ideals, i fins i tot es va oferir a Fidel Castro per col·laborar en la revolució cubana. Tenia prop de setanta anys. Morí uns anys més tard sense haver pogut tornar a trepitjar la terra que tant va estimar: Menorca.
