El argumento se desarrollaba también en la Patagonia, de manera que su itinerario hacia el sur y sus encuentros con toda una galería de personajes fascinantes iría enriqueciéndose con la búsqueda de pistas y escenarios novelescos, con reflexiones literarias y fragmentos de esa novela inacabada, para conformar un originalísimo relato de viajes que mereció el Premio Grandes Viajeros 2000.
