Esta "cultura de guerra" articuló colectivamente las percepciones e influyó en las preferencias y las evaluaciones individuales. De este modo, como marco de referencia este libro permite interpretar la propia experiencia individual según unas categorías generales de conceptos. A partir de tal planteamiento en este estudio se argumenta que el lenguaje político fundamentó la legitimación del «nuevo Estado» español en la guerra: como bellum iustum, subsistiendo una «causa justa» a la rebelión militar, conducida por el don y la gracia carismáticos de su caudillo, defendida con la sangre de los mártires y «caídos».
