Esta gata persa presumida, blanca como el algodón y de enormes bigotes, roba el corazón del pobre Basilio, que la busca y adora a riesgo de acabar siendo la merienda de su amada. Aunque él cree que Laila nunca sería capaz de comerse a un rey, serán los Reyes Magos quienes pongan orden en la casa de Marta, trayendo a Basilio y a Laila el regalo que les saque de ese hechizo amoroso. Inés de Cuenca Barella escribió este cuento cuando era niña y Carmen García Iglesias lo ha ilustrado con ese cariño especial que sus pinceles reflejan siempre que se aproxima al mundo de los gatos y de otros animales.
